David Lu


David Lu is the Associate Principal Timpanist and Section Percussionist of the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, a capacity he began serving in 2018. David has performed with a myriad of ensembles, including the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, Reading Symphony Orchestra, Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra, and the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed in concert tour productions by Salute to Vienna, Video Games Live, Evanescence, Lindsey Stirling, and The Indigo Girls. Mr. Lu’s previous summer engagements include the Princeton Festival and the Miami Summer Music Festival.

David has obtained a Bachelor of Music degree from Temple University’s Esther Boyer College of Music & Dance. He completed his studies and obtained a Master of Music degree from the University of Maryland School of Music. While in school, Mr. Lu was a three-time recipient of Temple University’s Glenn Steele Percussion Merit Scholarship, Dr. Milton J. Sutter Award in music history, and the Percussive Arts Society’s John E. Grimes Timpani Memorial Scholarship. David has studied under the tutelage of Jauvon Gilliam, Eric Shin, Christopher Deviney, Phillip O’banion, and William Wozniak. He received additional instruction and mentoring from Sean J. Kennedy, Alan Abel, Don Liuzzi, and Anthony Orlando. Mr. Lu proudly endorses JGpercussion timpani mallets and Grover Pro Percussion products.
