Pedro Sá

Artist

Dr. Pedro Sá is professional timpanist and percussionist since 1984. He performed with many orchestras, like Brazilian Symphony Orchestra (with Luciano Pavarotti) and Petrobras Symphony Orchestra, besides others symphony orchestras in Brazil, under the batons of Lorin Maazel, Charles Dutoit, Isaac Karabtchevsky, Jean-Claude Casadesus, Hubert Soudant, among others. During the 2015-2016 season, he performed the première of Dimitri Cervo’s Concertante for Timpani and Orchestra, with Petrobras Symphony Orchestra

With Master and Doctors’ degrees in Music/Performance from Unirio, he has been Professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) since 2007, teaching Percussion and Chamber Music, as Percussion Group Director (Grupo de Percussão da UFRJ). He is also Associate Researcher as percussion consultant in museums of musical instruments in Brazil and Lisbon, Portugal (Universidade Nova de Lisboa). With Duo Sá de Percussão (with Janaína Sá), Dr. Sá performed at PASIC 2015, in San Antonio, and gave a Symphonic Clinic-Performance at PASIC 2016, in Indianapolis, about Percussion Instruments Used by Heitor Villa-Lobos. The Duo premièred works by Michael Udow, Fred Carrilho, César Traldi and others contemporary composers. He also writes for Percussive Notes and Modern Drummer magazines.

Dr. Sá proudly uses JGpercussion timpani mallets in all of his musical projects and performances.
