Szabolcs Joó is the Principal Timpanist of the Hungarian National Philharmonic and head of percussion department of the Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest, Hungary. He has been awarded in numerous percussion competitions in Belgium, Czech Republic and Hungary. He appeared as soloist with Hunstville Symphony, Hungarian National Phil and Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra. He is an active chamber musician , and has played with Renaud Capucon, Clemens Hagen, Kirill Gernstein, Vikingur Olafsson, Amadinda Percussion Group and others. His composition – “Snare Breathing” – was a repertoire piece in Modern Snare Drum Competition several times. He elected the Artist of the Year in 2015 by the musicians of the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra.
