Timothy Jepson became Principal Timpanist of the Kansas City Symphony in August of 1983. A native of Iowa, Tim graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City where he began his professional career at the age of 18. Tim studied with various teachers including Salvatore Rabbio. Tim was a percussionist with the Kansas City Brass and performed with festivals including the Sunflower Music Festival in Kansas and the Western Slope Music Festival in Crested Butte, Colorado. He has been an active educator, clinician, adjudicator and has served on the faculty of Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.
In 2017 Tim found two antique timpani from a junk dealer in Leavenworth, KS. During restoration they were discovered to have been built in western Europe about 1750. They are now used for performing period repertoire with the Kansas City Symphony and Lyric Opera of Kansas City.
