ZHENGDAO LU has performed as the Assistant Timpanist and Section Percussionist of the China National Opera Symphony Orchestra since 2007, and serves on the faculty of Shenyang Conservatory of Music.
A graduate of the Central Conservatory with B.M and M.M degrees, Mr. Lu studied with distinguished professors Liu Guangsi and Liu Gang, Assistant Professor/Principal Timpanist of the National Centre for Performance Arts Orchestra (NCPA).
As an active soloist, Mr. Lu has performed at the Beijing Contemporary Music Festival, Beijing Electronic Music Festival, China-Japan Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations, and many others. He has played chamber music and concertos with musicians such as Katarina Mycka, Michael Udow and Momoko Kamiya.
Mr. Lu made his debut as a soloist at the National Center for Performance Arts Concert Hall in 2008 with the China National Symphony Orchestra during 2008 Olympic Music Season, his European debut at the CMAPLER Music Festival of France at 2004 and his Japanese debut in 2007. Upcoming performances include the 3rd Shenyang International Percussion Festival in May 2014 and the National Culture Center Hall Festival, June 2014 in Taipei.
As an educator, his percussion students have won the 1st prize on Timpani and 2nd prize on Marimba at the most recent National Percussion Competition in Shanghai. As an orchestra member, he has performed at every major concert hall and opera theater in China – and also has been a part of orchestra tours to Europe, USA, Africa, Mid-East and Taiwan.
As a member of the National Opera Orchestra Mr. Lu has performed under the baton of world class conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Chung Myung-Whun, Erich Kunzel, Lu Jia, and Tan Dun, and has worked with vocalists such as Angela Gheorghiu, Renée Fleming, Placido Domingo, and Jose Carreras.
Mr. Lu is a co-founder and organizer of the Shenyang International Percussion Festival.
